Jeff Danley
Jeff Danley is a self-taught painter, former touring drummer and arts mentor in Nashville, TN. He is collected extensively in private collections and has been featured in New American Paintings magazine. Danley’s expressive figurative work interprets the minute language of the human body as it moves through time and place. His solitary female figures twist and turn, carrying tension and weight in a close environment deceivingly subdued by a soft, simple palette. These figures, executed with exquisite attention to detail, are often arranged with the face slightly obscured or the edges of the canvas crowding the body; a feeling that is simultaneously claustrophobic and oddly freeing.
STATEMENT
I have always been interested in the language of the body- what is being expressed by posture and movement, as well as the marks of time on the body itself. In response to my own physical malformation (I was born without a right hand), I am acutely aware of such ideals as beauty, perfection and symmetry in relation to the human figure. Through intense observation of the model, I slowly build up many layers of paint to create a material form, giving the inert pigment the illusion of a flesh and blood presence.
